Set a date and a total.
Write down when the gift needs to arrive and how much you want to spend altogether. Ask the seller to confirm delivery, any additional charges, gift packaging and whether an exchange can be requested by the recipient. Rules and exclusions differ by seller and location.
Compare more than a photograph.
GIA describes seven pearl value factors: size, shape, colour, lustre, surface, nacre and matching. Treat those as a vocabulary for questions, not an authenticity test you can complete from a picture. Read GIA’s buyer’s guide.

Open the Pearl Library
Use the existing reference guide to explore pearl terminology. Ask the seller to identify the pearl type and disclose treatments, metal and dimensions in writing. Do not infer quality from a country name or a grade label alone.
Compare two options
Record two product links in the Buying Desk. Use the same currency for both quotes, add known charges and leave unanswered questions visible. Save the seller’s reply, invoice details and return exclusions before paying.
Read the care guide
Include the maker’s care instructions with the gift. GIA advises avoiding ultrasonic and steam cleaning and using a very soft, clean cloth for routine wiping after wear. Ask a jeweller about care for the complete piece, including its metal, setting and string. Read GIA’s care guidance.
